The big question is, how long does it take and what applications does it work with. Well, with Outlook Express it’s pretty quick although it doesn’t work with Microsoft Outlook unfortunately. It does however work with Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey and Windows Mail which isn’t a great deal but covers most of the major alternatives outside of Outlook. One added bonus is that it can also backup Windows Live mail contacts, Messenger files and configuration but not unfortunately, the mail itself.

It adds a new Peek button to the toolbar, that displays the message content in plain text, as well as tabs for HTML source, Internet Header and Attachments. You can also respond to, forward or delete a message directly from the Peek dialog. (Note: You need to turn the Outlook Reading Pane off, otherwise it will display the HTML in the preview window automatically.)

PocketKnife Peek is a COM add-in that works with Outlook 2000 or later. It is compatible with any version of Windows capable of running the corresponding version of Outlook. If you are still using Outlook 2000, PocketKnife Peek works with both Outlook configurations: Internet Mail Only (IMO) and Corporate/ Workgroup (C/W). (These two categories are combined on Outlook 2002 and later.) You do not need to install PocketKnife in order to run PocketKnife Peek. PocketKnife Peek is free for personal use and for registered users of PocketKnife. Multi-user licenses are available for businesses. Works with the Outlook E-mail Security Update. Backup with MailStore Home comes as close to being a snap as you’re going to get. Reading emails in the backup archive is as easy or easier as reading them in a regular email client. And with the quick search utility, you have the best chance you’d ever have to find that one message you’re looking for out of all the possible locations it could have been in.

Its blink-of-an-eye search feature comes in two forms: a simple field in the side bar, and an advanced search screen from which you can drill down to specifics–dates, folders, even the contents of e-mail attachments. You can also save queries to rerun at a later time, and enter Boolean search terms. After retrieving the message, you’ll see management options like opening, saving, and exporting. You’re even able to reply to archived Web mail messages via your offline in-box–just be patient.

The inevitable drawbacks are these: there’s no autoarchiving or scheduling, so archiving is a manual activity. Initial scanning also takes a considerable length of time, and subsequent archives of the same in-box (click “run” to rearchive) start over from scratch instead of offering you the option to pick up from the most recent message date. It’s missing the more nimble filters found in rival Outlook add-ons, like filtering by e-mails with attachments. MailStore Home also restricts you to three account profiles, a handicap if you’ve got more active accounts than that. Despite these drawbacks, MailStore Home offers a fine free solution for storing e-mail from multiple in-boxes and searching through the archives.

There are two tab on Xobni. On this tab you get a graphical representation of when you exchange email with the emailer, other people who exchange email with the emailer, conversations being held with the emailer, and files that have been exchanged with the emailer. This tab really helps see what is going on with the person.

The Organize Tab in Xobni is like a small dashboard. You will see on this tab section, your Upcoming Appointments, and Tasks. There is also a section at the bottom of the tab showing people that you haven’t emailed recently so that you can “stay connected”.
At Xobni, we’ve had our own little Y2K in recent weeks (minus the $300 billion price tag) and we call it “Y2K+10.” When Microsoft announced that Outlook 2010 would be available to consumers in June, we were excited to integrate with the updated platform. Since then, a select group of us have been heads-down (others were slightly pre-occupied). Integrating with the new 64-bit flavor of Outlook accounted for a hefty portion of the effort, though users of all versions of Outlook + Xobni will now benefit from that groundwork.
Pros and Cons of Xobni

Pros
Xobni is most powerful in e-mail management. The search functionality, that allows viewing of most recent e-mail exchanged is great. The speed at which it shut out thousands of less useful e-mails from my Outlook Inbox is just amazing. All other features that I’ve covered above are the good things you can expect from Xobni.

Cons
While, I haven’t found any noticeable cons in Xobni, some reviews reported slight slowdown in Outlook performance due to use of Xobni. I hope, it would not be a big issue for Xobni users.
